Urban Frame is shown as a solution to the rapid growth of Curridabat. The site located in the South-East zone of San José is positioned in an innovation sector established by the municipality of Curridabat.
The design arises around the idea a rupture adapted to the regulations established by the regulatory plan. A basic module of 8.4 x 8.4 serves both to contain three parking spaces as well as a 70.5 m2 living space. This base unit is used to establish a grid on the site and extrude the twenty-five-story tower.
A hundred and thirty-eight units are removed from the extruded volume and then scattered on the lower part of the building to generate collective space at pedestrian level. The project has a series of internal streets that promote public space around a commercial area, followed by four levels of offices and ten of housing.
The project tries to insert a bit of urbanism into an area that is the product of the “urban sprawl” as well as frame a welcoming view from Cartago to San José or vice versa.
The main entrances, located on the north-west side of the tower, are shown as double-height galleries that show a distinguished difference between the access to offices and homes. Escalators that lead to office floors are located on the sides, while the lobby for housing and its respective vertical circulation is located in the center.
